An all singing, all dancing youth theatre group is staging their version of the hit Disney film, High School Musical.

A cast of 21 young singers, dancers and performers from the Youth Arts Group, based at Kensington Road, are staging their production tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday), from 7pm, and the producers promise that the stage show will contain all the ingredients that made the film such a firm family favourite.

The show is directed by Joey Wylde, and choreographed by Beth Brown, both from the Youth Arts theatre group.

’High School Musical is an adaptation from the movie, especially for the stage,’ said Joey.

’I was quite shocked at actually how different it is. But most of the songs are there, all the songs that everyone loves, like ’Breaking Free’, ’We’re All In This Together’, all the ones that everyone can sing and dance along with.’

The show stars singer Callum Brew as Troy and Alicia Picket as Gabriella.

The modern day take on Romeo and Juliet features the couple from different backgrounds who get together despite all the odds.

’They’ve taken to it really well,’ said Joey.

’They are the lead characters and the big singers.

We did have another Gabriella, but she had to drop out at the last minute. Alicia stepped in at short notice, and she’s been absolutely fantastic. She’s learnt the lines, the dances and the songs, she’s so good. And her voice works really well with Callum’s in the lead roles.’

Tickets are £5, available from the Youth Arts Centre.
