One of Britain’s most distinguished organists will be performing in the island this weekend.

Dr James Lancelot, recently retired organist and master of the choristers of Durham Cathedral, will be at the keys of the island’s largest organ, St Thomas’s, Douglas.

The free recital, organised by the Isle of Man Organists’ Association, takes place on Saturday at 11am.

The programme includes pieces by Bach, Haydn, Mendelssohn and Vaughn Williams.

Dr Lancelot is a well-known recitalist across Europe and the USA.

He holds honorary fellowships from the Royal School of Church Music, the Guild of Church Musicians and St Chad’s College, Durham University.

The recital will be followed by a three-course lunch served in the church, at which Dr Lancelot will be the guest speaker.

Places (£16) need to be booked today, by calling Don Roworth on 318785 or 840457.
