Green-fingered Peel residents are being urged to enter their gardens into a competition.
There are six different classes to enter in the Garden Awards: commissioners gardens, small private gardens, large private gardens, hanging baskets or window boxes, community displays and allotments.
The competition is held in conjunction with Peel Gardeners’ Association’s 77th annual show at Peel Clothworkers’ School, in Derby Road.
Classes will include confectionary, photography, floral art, fruit and honey, flowers and many more.
Additionally there are children’s classes where children can make anything from biscuits and jam tarts to animals made of vegetables.
Robert Quayle, one of the event organisers, encouraged newcomers to enter their garden into the competition.
’Don’t be put off by the fact that you have not entered before, as it’s only when you enter that you could have a pleasant surprise after the judging takes place,’ he said.
A prize for best newcomer has been introduced for this year.
Prizes are sponsored by Watsons Nurseries in Greeba and Peel Town Commissioners. Entries to the garden competition close on Saturday, August 10 and judging by Robert Watson will take place on Monday, August 12.
The prize winners will receive their awards at the show on Thursday, August 15 at 6.30pm.
To enter call Robert Quayle on 843157, Margaret Kennaugh on 803269 or Diane Horne on 842784 or 477100.
Entries to the show, must be taken to the hall, between 5pm and 9pm on August 14.
Only confectionary will be accepted the following morning before 10.30am.
