A Ramsey resident is appealing for information about an old clock that used to belong to the town.

Jacqui Kneen is looking for information regarding the timepiece that used to be located on East Street and was attached to Charles Halsall-Kee’s jewellers shop.

The clock face was then printed with the name ’Harbour Bistro’ as the jewellers shop was refurbished to become a bistro.

The clock was removed in the 1980s but was sold on Ebay two weeks ago.

Wayne Francis, the new owner of the clock, from England, and Jacqui want to know more about the clock’s past, particularly the past 70 years and how it came to be on sale on Ebay.

The clock is an antique which is double dial (hands and face on both sides) and features the three legs of man.

Paint on the clock face has worn away and revealed the name ’Waring’, Jacqui and Wayne are unsure of what relevance this has to the clock and its history.

Both Jacqui and Wayne are looking for information surrounding the clock’s history and are looking to answer these questions specifically:

l Is Waring a name connected to the shop?

l Are there any photos showing the clock on the building as Kee’s, Harbour Bistro or something else?

l Does anyone remember where the clock went when the building was demolished just over a decade ago?

Jacqui discovered the clock through a poem written in 1925 about public clocks in Ramsey.

She said: ’I found out about the clock as I was looking at a poem whilst researching a different project.

’As I was finishing the report Wayne Francis, a member of the Antiquarian Horological Society Turret Clock Group from the UK posted on Faceboook looking for information about a clock he just bought on Ebay.

’The clock had the words Harbour Bistro painted on the face.

’I knew that was the clock I had been researching, I said "you have my clock!"’

Charles Halsall Kee was a well-known man in Ramsey in the 1890s.

He worked as a merchant broker, helped people to emigrate from the island and he was part of the Ramsey Methodist church.
