Wednesday’s weather had a surprising knock-on effect today, as traffic built up around the sea terminal.
Due to the delayed departure of the Ben-My-Chree to Heysham and subsequent return sailing, the area around the sea terminal became very busy this morning.
As a result of the delay and unloading the boat, which was full following the other cancelled services yesterday, check in for this morning’s Heysham sailing couldn’t open until 7.45am.
By this time, queues had built up on roads around the sea terminal.
A DoI statement said: ’The department will be working with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company to review the interim and permanent arrangements for vehicle check-in at times of very busy sailings.
’Investment in improvements to the linkspan and the marshalling areas is planned to allow some of the space usually used for cars once they are checked-in to be used for freight trailers awaiting loading.
’The department and the Steam Packet regret any inconvenience caused to the public.’
