The Department of Infrastructure has outlined its solution to the prom works during TT: stop them.

During the fortnight, all major work on the promenade will cease and some of the fencing currently decorating the sea front construction site will be temporary removed.

The DoI said the suspension of works and removal of the fences is to ensure the prom ’can be used with as little disruption as possible’.

During the fortnight, Loch Promenade will remain ’mainly clear with the exception of some minor barriers’ while the area on Harris Promenade, where the flower beds had been outside the Gaiety Theatre, will remain fenced off, but will be able to accommodate some motorbike parking and allow access to the road crossing.

On Central Promenade, 400m of fencing will remain from Castle Drive to Switzerland Road and no waiting or stopping will be allowed on the road or pavements.

However, while cars will not be allowed to stop, there will be signposted areas for ’some motorbike parking’.

The horse trams will be running for the much shortened length of 500 metres. DoI Minister Ray Harmer told the House of Keys earlier this month that the track will be operational from Strathallan to Switzerland Road during TT fortnight.

Mr Harmer also confirmed that construction work on the prom would be ’temporarily completed’ in time for this year’s TT.

Although the horse trams are running, the shuttle minibus that goes up and down the prom will not be running throughout TT. It will be suspended and begin again on June 10.

The seafront parking on Loch Promenade will also be lost during the fortnight, to make way for the fair to make its annual trip over to the island.

However, after Hooded Ram had to cancel its plans for the Bottleneck car park, that will provide options for parking alongside Summerland, Chester Street and Shaw’s Brow during events such as the Red Arrows.
