The public are being reminded it is illegal to cycle in the island’s national glens.
The warning comes after a cyclist narrowly avoided a collision with a walker in Molly Quirks Glen in Onchan.
A statement from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture said: ’Under the Forestry Byelaws it is illegal to cycle in any of the island’s 18 Manx National Glens.
’The department has gone to great lengths to provide numerous cycling opportunities around the DEFA Forest estate and would ask riders to respect the rule that the Glens are only for pedestrians’
DEFA say the nature of the island’s glens, with narrow footpaths often twisting and turning around blind corners with steep drops, as well as bridges and steps make it dangerous to cycle through them.
However the department add that cyclists can use the DEFA Forest estate which includes plantations hill lands.
