The Met Office is warning that the island is going to have a significant spell of unsettled weather, which is expected to develop over the weekend and for the beginning of next week.

Developing Atlantic weather systems will give spells of rain, heavy at times, over the weekend followed by wintry showers, with snow on high ground, early next week.

Gales or severe gales, with a risk of gusts to storm force, are expected over the weekend and early next week with a risk of minor structural damage and some travel disruption.

Some coastal overtopping is likely near the time of high tides, especially over the weekend.

Detailed warnings will be issued when required nearer the time, the Met Office says.
