A Crosby school boy has caught international attention on Twitter with a poem about worms.

Nine-year-old Archie Timson, a pupil at Marown School, wrote a poem about worms which has gained just over 1,700 likes on Twitter.

The poem titled, ’How to be a worm’, was posted on the social media platform by his teacher Jacqueline Shirtliff, where it quickly gained traction.

The poem caught the attention of children’s author and former children’s laureate Michael Rosen and the senior curator of worms at the Natural History Museum Emma Sherlock among others.

Mr Rosen described the poem on Twitter as fantastic.

He tweeted: ’Take it slow. Each word. Each phrase. Each line. Excellent.’

The family were surprised at the response it gained on Twitter.

Archie’s mum, Joanne, said: ’We are just dumbfounded at how well it has done online.

’It was just a task for school that he had to do where he had to research a specific animal to do a poem about and he chose to do his about worms.

’He likes all animals and he is interested in all animals and creatures and he’s full of interesting facts about them.’

The poem in full reads:

Wiggle about in the

dark damp mud.

Hiding from the sun

digging tunnels up and down.

With slimy soft skin no eyes no

nose nowhere to run only

alone stuck in the mud.

All of my five hearts

beating loudly.
