The endeavours and achievements of young people will again be celebrated through the North American Manx Awards.
The Department of Education, Sport and Culture is inviting nominations for the awards, presented annually by the North American Manx Association.
Education Minister Graham Cregeen MHK said: ’These awards were generously instigated by the North American Manx Association to commemorate the millennium of Tynwald in 1979 and have become a traditional high point in the education calendar.
’They reward young people with talent and who give time to the community, including those who overcome considerable challenges to do so.’
The awards mainly recognise the achievements of under-18s. But two awards are open to older recipients, too.
The categories are: Manx music; art and crafts that portray any aspect of Manx life or culture; Manx language; outstanding contribution to Manx culture by a student under 18 , by a student over 18; and by a group of under 25s; Manx community: outstanding contribution to the community in general - eg, for work with voluntary organisations or with the disabled/elderly; and overcoming disability to contribute to the community. The awards - specially-minted medals - will be presented at the Barrool Suite in the Tynwald building on July 6.
Nomination forms can be downloaded at https://www.gov.im/categories/education-training-and-careers/competitions-in-schools/ or call Frances Hampton on 693830.
