Onchan Commissioners have helped some of the village’s children clean up.

The local authority has given equipment in the form of litter pickers to pupils from Onchan Primary School.

Teachers Rebecca Brownless and Victoria Cubbon approached the commissioners following a request from the school’s ’Eco Council’ for permission to carry out litter picking visits throughout the playgrounds of Onchan.

District surveyor Ross Phillips said: ’We are pleased to assist with Onchan School’s Eco Council and the pupils who are giving up their time to make a difference to the amenity of the village.

’It is encouraging to see children taking an interest in the place where they live and study, and we hope that we can continue to assist with this activity in the future.’

The school has also shared a picture of a bag of rubbish collected by pupils in 20 minutes in the park near the school.
