A new glamping pod has been built for the island’s Girl Guides in Thornton Duesbury Wood in Glen Mona, Maughold.
The pod has been provided for the guides by Soroptimist International in Douglas.
Soroptimist is a volunteer organisation which aims to better the lives of women, girls and children through education, entertainment and practical community programs.
Glamping is a word which defines glamorous camping. When you’re glamping, there’s no tent to pitch, no sleeping bag to unroll, no and no fire to build. It is like camping but with the luxuries of a hotel.
Karen Walker, island Guide Commissioner, said: ’We really appreciate the support shown by Soroptimist International in providing the glamping pod in the guide wood.
’Our girl guiding volunteers are so committed to providing a great guiding experience to our young members.
’It is great that we have the Thornton Duesbury Wood for camping and outdoor activities for our groups.
’It’s a big boost to know that the wider general public really do value our commitment to the girls and young women of the island and are willing to assist us.
’On behalf of all our members I’d like to thank Soroptimists International and James Fennell Micro Lodges - it means a great deal to us. ’
Representatives and volunteers of Girl Guiding Isle of Man gathered on Saturday for an official opening of the pod in Thornton-Duesbery Wood.
Girlguiding Isle of Man is the island’s largest voluntary youth organisation catering for ages from five years to 26 years.
There are groups based around the island including in Ramsey, Peel, Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin.
It is also part of Girlguiding UK, the largest voluntary organisation in the UK for girls and young women.
