The government has appointed an interim chief executive officer for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture.

Former primary school teacher Graham Kinrade will take on the role for a six month period with immediate effect. In his position he will be responsible for more than 2,300 full and part-time staff and a budget of £115 million.

The DESC is in charge of 37 schools, as well as the National Sports Centre, Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre.

His appointment comes after the resignation of Professor Ronald Barr, who left the department days after a critical report was published.

Tomorrow’s Isle of Man Examiner includes an interview with Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson in the aftermath of the publication of the Beamans report.
