Jesamine Kelly has taken up her new role as principal at University College Isle of Man (UCM).

Miss Kelly (pictured) was appointed in October, but officially started last week at the beginning of the new term after predecessor Jo Petty left for a new role at the Department of Education in the UK.

The former Castle Rushen High School pupil said: ’Having studied at UCM myself, I understand how valuable a local education is and the doors it can open for our talented young people.’

’Things have of course changed a lot since my time at the Isle of Man College, before it changed to UCM, but the passion of the lecturers, fun and energy remains the same.

’My studies at UCM gave me a real love of education, both learning and developing my own skills but also helping others to grow and succeed.

’UCM has a brilliant range of courses that the team is always looking to develop to meet the needs of our students and the local employment market. I have some exciting plans for the future of UCM which I will be announcing in the near future.’

After completing her studies at Castle Rushen, Miss Kelly began her relationship with UCM back in 1991, where she studied an Art and Design Foundation course.

Miss Kelly added an illustration degree, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Master of Arts (MA) degree in sequential design, Master in Education (Med) in professional practice in higher education, and a Level 5 leadership and management diploma to her list of qualifications.

The former graphic designer started her career in education as a lecturer in 2008 and progressed to hold a number of key management and director roles at Southport College, including assistant principal.
