A support and signpost evening was attended by parents last week, where they uncovered issues affecting school children.
Eleven workshops that focused on sexting, drugs and alcohol, emotional wellbeing, the importance of good attendance and employment laws were given by education leaders.
A spokeswomen from St Ninan’s High School said the intention of the talks were to help make ’parents more aware and learn some of the issues that are affecting young people today.’
The event took place at Bemahague High School in Onchan, where members from Cruise Bereavment Care, Motiv8, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, Youth Service, IOM Constabulary, Government Technology Services and the Department of Education, Sports and Culture gave talks.
Parents whose children attend St Ninian’s High School or Onchan, Ashley Hill, Laxey, Cronk-y-Berry, Willaston and St. Mary’ primary schools, were invited to the evening sessions.
The half-an-hour workshops were split up into a ’small environment’ to provide a ’comfortable setting for parents to ask questions.’
Lessons on how to use social media, such as Snapchat, were also provided to ’help parents keep children safe.’
