Art students from the south of the island were rewarded for their creative efforts after making it through an academic year like no other.

The GCSE and A level students from Castle Rushen High School held their end-of-year-art exhibition at the school, with several of the students singled out for awards.

Layla Balachandran Menon and Nathan Reid were commended for Creativity Award for outstanding creative efforts, while Natasha Collister and Hannah Hayhurst were also awarded a prize for outstanding artwork during the GCSE year.

A level student Isobel Young was awarded the Studio 42 A-Level Art Work award by head teacher Keith Winstanley, and Josie Lainsey and Jasmine Hextall, along with Hannah Lillie were given prizes for textile design.

Holly Gelling was on hand to accept the award for GCSE textile designs, along with Michelle Pinto Carvalhido and Sunny Heginbotham.

The night also saw the presentation of the John Nicolson Bursary, awarded by Michael Ingram to Isabel Clarke and Rhian Mason for outstanding A-Level Art work.

’What a wonderful way to celebrate such a challenging year,’ said Kristian Edwards, head of art and design.

’I would personally like to thank everyone who came to the exhibition and to everyone who made this possible, all of our students and Castle Rushen High School for its continued support of creative education.’
