Pupils, parents and staff at King William’s College experienced a ’Taste of Culture’ at the school’s annual charity evening, which raised more than £1,700 for a grassroots Moldovan charity.

The event, now in its 11th year, featured a wide selection of food, performances and music from across the globe.

The evening began with entertainment in King’s Court Theatre, before moving on to the Barrovian Hall where guests were presented with 14 tables of food representing countries from all over the world. Guests voted for Best Food, Best Dessert and Best Presentation.

Poland took the top spot, winning the Savoury Food and Best Presentation trophies, with France narrowly pipping England for the best sweet treat.

The event was in aid of Speranta Terrei, a community organisation in Balti, northern Moldova, which works to raise awareness of tuberculosis (TB) and deliver TB and HIV medication to the region’s rural community.

The college was introduced to the charity by a pupil from Moldova.

Principal Joss Buchanan said: ’Our Taste of Culture evening was, as always, a great success with superb entertainment.

’The pupils, parents and staff all pulled together to put on an event enjoyed by all, and we’re very grateful to everyone who contributed delicacies from across the globe and donated to our chosen cause.

’The standard of the food was excellent and I think once again surpassed expectations - it’s great for the students to taste cuisines from different cultures and experience new flavours, learning what people from across the world eat.’
