Pupils from Ballakermeen High School and Ramsey Grammar School are going to Germany for work experience.

The youngsters, aged 16 and 17, and two teachers will be going to Bayreuth, to undertake a week’s work experience in placements at a theatre, a medical practice, at the University of Bayreuth and at the local international school.

Pupils from Ramsey will go to Germany this month, while those from Ballakermeen will go in July.

RGS headteacher Annette Baker said: ’We are delighted to be able to offer sixth form students the rare opportunity to work in a different country, experiencing the culture and practising their German skills.

’This will definitely be something to mention on CVs and university applications. I am really pleased to work again with colleagues at Ballakermeen High School and Markgräfin-Wilhelmine-Gymnasium on this initiative.’

RGS and BHS will host 12 students from Germany in July.

The visiting students will be working in various industries on the Isle of Man, experiencing traditional Manx events, including Tynwald Day, as well as practising their English.
