Children from Onchan School were special guests at Government House.

The eight and nine-year-olds were invited to make the short journey by Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney, after they wrote to him to welcome him to Onchan and ask him questions about his hobbies, his home and his job.

They decided to contact Sir Richard as they needed to learn how to write and set out a letter.

Sir Richard first visited the children at the school, when pupils asked him more questions.

Rather than just tell them about where he lived, he invited the class of 28, plus teacher Janet Gilmour, to visit Government House.

The children took part in a quiz based on objects on the ground floor of Government House and also listened to Sir Richard as he told them about his career and all the countries he had visited.

Sir Richard, who is the Queen’s representative in the Isle of Man, was sworn in as Lieutenant Governor last year, succeeding Adam Wood.

Prior to coming to the Isle of Man, His Excellency had a distinguished career in the British Diplomatic Service including service as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Bermuda.
