A man who has played a leading role in the success of the Manx Youth Games has received special recognition from the government.

The support provided by Kevin Cartledge helped to establish the MYG as the Isle of Man’s largest annual multi-sport event.

The former HSBC manager’s contribution has been celebrated with the presentation of a one-off award by Education, Sport and Culture Minister Graham Cregeen MHK.

Mr Cregeen said: ’The sponsorship from HSBC and Kevin’s drive, enthusiasm and dedication have made the Manx Youth Games the outstanding success it is today. The event has enabled thousands of local children to get active and try different sports they may otherwise not have experienced. Kevin can be very proud of his efforts and the award is a token of our appreciation for his work over many years.’

HSBC has sponsored the Manx Youth Games every year since the event was first staged in 2002.

Hundreds of children aged six to 15 get together in May each year to represent their regions in 12 sports.

Mr Cartledge said: ’It has been a real pleasure to be involved in an event that has brought the fun and excitement of sport to so many local children.

’It really has been a team effort by HSBC, the department and the coaches. The strength of that partnership has helped the Manx Youth Games to go from strength to strength and I’m sure it will continue to flourish in the years ahead.’
