Students from all six of University College Isle of Man’s construction department’s specialist areas will go head to head in a skills test on Friday.
This will be the third annual test, run by the college, and will take place at its main site at Homefield Road at 10.30am.
Students will be competing against each other and the clock to win prizes worth up to £350 each.
Corelli Bentham, head of the construction department, said: ’The skills test gives all our students the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and expertise they have gained whilst studying with us.
’Amongst the vibrant and charged atmosphere there is always a sense of good healthy competition; all the students taking part are definitely in it to win it.
’We are very proud of our students and the high standard of their workmanship; it’s great to have the chance to show them off to people outside of the college.’
Materials used in the test, sponsored by the Construction Federation and other local and UK businesses, have been provided by the island’s construction industry.
Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Chief Minister Howard Quayle will be there, as well as visiting staff from Jersey and Guernsey colleges.
Members of the public are also welcome.
