Manx educational charity Junior Achievement is looking for island students to take part in a business challenge.

Young people aged 11 to 16 will have the opportunity to meet new people, build confidence and develop life skills such as communication, teamwork, time management and problem solving.

The series of one-day workshops will take place from August 3 to 12 at the Villa Marina in Douglas.

Students can register free of charge to join a workshop, where they will work in groups to solve a real life business problem.

At the end of the challenge, each group will present their solution to a panel of judges with an exciting prize awarded to the team with the best idea.

Sue Cook, chief executive officer of Junior Achievement, said: ’The aim of this initiative is to help bring young people together in a fun, interactive and safe environment.

’Due to Covid-19 and the local lockdowns, some career-related activities in schools have had to be cancelled. We want to provide additional support to those who have been impacted and give them new opportunities for personal development.

’We have run similar workshops in schools and they are incredibly popular, with the students taking a lot away from the experience.

’We would like to say thank you to Zurich International for sponsoring this initiative as we really couldn’t do it without its generous support.’

Nigel Simpson, head of international markets, Zurich International, said: ’We have a long and successful association with Junior Achievement Isle of Man and are thrilled to be sponsoring this event.

’Investment in the Island’s young people is vital, especially at this time following the challenges of the pandemic.

’The concept of providing students with a real-life business problem and allowing them to craft their solution is really exciting and we can’t wait to see the responses.’
