An elderly pedestrian has been seriously injured in a road accident.

Emergency services were called out at just after 12.50pm today (Tuesday) to the collision on Glencrutchery Road, close to its junction with Dukes Avenue.

Police said the accident involved an 81-year-old female pedestrian and a vehicle.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

Glencrutchery Road was closed between Dukes Avenue and Victoria Road but has now reopened.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Constable Matthew Davison of the roads policing unit on 631212.
