A teacher from Laxey has run the equivalent height of Mont Blanc by running from the Bungalow to Snaefell’s summit and back 26 times.

Eleanor Miklos, a 38-year-old mother-of-two, has raised almost £2,000 after completing her mission as part of the ’2.6 challenge’.

The challenge was launched to replace the postponed London Marathon as a way of fundraising for charities.

Mrs Miklos ran 47 miles and climbed about 5,200m of ascent in three days. This is a little over the height of the tallest mountain in the Alps, which stands at 4,810m.

Her efforts were inspired by Christian Varley who ran 19 marathons in 19 days, raising £85,000 towards the Manx Solidarity Fund.

She said: ’I came up with the idea just over two weeks ago and the only preparation I did was to run up 15 times to see whether 26 looked at all feasible.

’I do like to run, but I’d never done anything like this before! I was quite inspired by Christian Varley, to be honest.

’With him running 19 marathons it felt wrong to just sit around when I was fairly sure I could do something to help too.’

The English teacher, who also teaches conservation at the Curraghs Wildlife Park, decided to raise funds toward The Children’s Centre.

’The Children’s Centre is a charity very close to my heart because I’m a mother and a teacher and because I think they provide a much-needed service for local children who face great challenges in life, like mountains, as a result of their learning or behavioural difficulties.

’They, like all charities, have taken a big hit recently in terms of fundraising.’

She was joined by friends and family members who accompanied her up and down the slope. This included her 63-year-old mother who went up nine times with her, her eight-year-old son who went up five times and on the final run.

’My husband had to support me on the descent because coming down was so painful by that point,’ she added.

She completed the fundraiser on Monday at 10.30pm after beginning at 8am.

Mrs Miklos added: ’I would especially like to thank all my amazing friends who supported me and Sharon, Jane and Joff from the Children’s Centre, who were just brilliant and made me feel it was all worthwhile.’
