Prizes will be up for grabs at the 72nd Sulby Horticultural Show.

Residents can take part in the event by entering as an exhibitor or by having a look at the different displays at Lezayre Parish Community Hall, Clenagh Road, on August 4.

The show will be opened at 1.30pm and will include a range of exhibits, including craftwork, wines, photography, floral art, fruit, vegetables, preserves and more. This year’s special confectionery class is ’the giggle cake’.

Refreshments will be served by the Busy Bees kitchen to members of the public who can also enter a raffle in the hopes of winning a travel voucher for a car plus two, donated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet.

Kirstie Martin, Sulby Horticultural Show chairperson, said: ’At the end of show afternoon, as with other local shows you may expect an auction of our produce. At Sulby Show we don’t do this.

’Instead, we proudly donate everything that is left by our exhibitors to the Isle of Man Foodbank.

’Having home-made and home-grown produce, including flowers, is a wonderful addition to the work that this fantastic group undertakes for our island.

’We will also continue to donate some fresh produce to a local residential home.’

Entry to the show costs £1 each and children go free. It is also free to enter as an exhibitor.

Entries should be sent to Kirstie at 6 Balleigh Court, Ramsey, no later than August 2.

If you have a trophy from last year’s show, please return it in advance to Graham in Caley’s General Stores or contact Viv Quane on 812500.

Kirstie added: ’If you’d like to come along on show day and help us, please contact us, we’d be delighted to show you what’s involved in bringing to life this happy, traditional, family, country show.’

She thanks all sponsors for their ’continued generosity’.
