The Corrib Singers, a male voice choir from Headford in County Galway, Ireland, will visit the island next week for a series of performances supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.
Formed in 2018 as the Corrib Male Voice Choir, the group was renamed the Corrib Singers in 2024 and consists of 25 amateur performers under the direction of Peter Berrill.
Their repertoire includes folk songs, hymns, sea shanties and original compositions, with performances delivered both a cappella and with keyboard accompaniment by Mairéad Berrill. The ensemble performs in multiple languages, including Irish, English, Welsh, Icelandic and Italian.
In addition to choral singing, members of the group and their partners perform traditional Irish music using instruments such as fiddle, concertina, accordion, guitar, tin whistle, keyboard and bodhrán, with these instrumental pieces being typically interspersed throughout concerts.
The choir has an established record of charitable fundraising. While performances are ticketless, donations are invited, with proceeds distributed to local charities in host communities.
The group has previously raised funds through concerts in County Galway, supporting both local and international causes.
The Corrib Singers have also undertaken a number of self-financed international visits, including tours to Iceland in 2019, Scotland in 2023, Wales in 2024 and Inis Mór in 2025.
During their visit to the Isle of Man, the choir will perform three concerts, all beginning at 7.30pm.
These will take place at King William’s College Chapel in Castletown on April 7, St German’s Cathedral in Peel on April 8, and St Thomas’ Church in Douglas on April 9.
The group will also be performing trad sessions at 9pm in a variety of different locations, such as the George in Castletown (April 6), the Sidings in Castletown (April 7), the Creek in Peel (April 8) and O’Donnell’s in Douglas (April 9).
