An arts and entertainment venue in the south of the island is to remain shut for start of this year.

The Erin Arts Centre was due to reopen this weekend with a screening of Cinderella, a family-friendly operatic version of the fairy tale produced and performed by the New York Met Opera and filmed in 2018.However, due to staffing concerns, the centre will remain closed.

A statement, released on the centre’s Facebook page, said:

’The current Covid situation unfortunately means the EAC will remain closed this week due to Covid related staff absences.

’This also means that we have had to cancel the opera screening of Cinderella on January 8.

’We are sorry for any inconvenience and we’ll keep you updated regarding our other events.’

As yet the archaeological talk, held by Allison Fox, due to take place on Monday, January 10 and the first round of the Young Singer of Mann, on Saturday, January 16, are set to go ahead as planned.
