One of Port St Mary’s best established businesses Aries Fashion Agency - or the ’good as new’ as it is known - is being taken over by a new owner.

Devotees of the shop will be delighted to learn the new owner is Erin Quine, daughter of Joan Guy, who has run the shop, established in 1983, for the last 20 years.

Erin, 38, has grown up with the business.

She remembers helping her mum at the shop which sells quality second hand items with great affection.

Half the proceeds go to the shop and the rest to the original owner. If unsold after three months, they go to charity or back to the owner.

She said several things came together to make this move feel like destiny.

’I was made redundant from work at Lloyds, the house was sold in Laxey.

’Mum wanted to sell the business. It was fate.’

Importantly it has brought her - with her family - back to Port St Mary to live after 20 years in Douglas and then Laxey.

’It’s nice to be back down here,’ she said. ’Something pulls you back.’

Under Erin, the opening hours of the shop will align more with school times.

It will be open 11am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday plus 10.30am to 5pm on Saturday with shorter hours during school holidays. Facebook will be used to promote different items and there will be special openings for personalised shopping. But apart from that it will be business as usual. The transition to Erin fits in neatly with the shop’s ethos as the notion the same thing can gain new life in fresh - if familiar - hands is what the shop is all about.
