Coaches from Premier League football team Everton have been putting kids through their paces this week.
The club, once known as the ’School of Science’, has been running its school camp throughout the week at Ballafletcher in conjunction with Douglas Royal AFC.
The camp, run for boys and girls aged between five and 15, began on Monday and finishes today (Friday).
It is part of the club’s ’Everton in the Community’ scheme.
The club sent seven coaches over to run the camp and which was attended by 150 children.
Organiser Sam Roberts said: ’We are delighted to welcome back Everton for a third year.
’It is a great opportunity for the children to enjoy football, make new friends, learn new skills and develop their confidence and social interaction.
’The coaches have excellent rapport with the kids and nurture their development.
’We love seeing the children have fun and smiling, even when it rains.’
Throughout the week, the Everton coaches, led by Sean Robertson, have put the different age groups through a variety of drills designed to improve their skills and attitude.
Sean said: ’It’s great to be back in the Isle of Man, working alongside Douglas Royal to run out third camp here.
’The Everton coaches and I really enjoy coming over and delivering a variety of fun sessions and games to get the boys and girls involved.
’We have run three very successful camps so far and we are looking froward to returning again next year.’
Douglas Royal AFC was involved in recent weeks with Championship side Blackburn Rovers when its coaches came to the island to run a similar summer school across a week. The week cost £100 per child with an Everton spokesman confirming that all money raised from the club’s summer camps goes back into building on community projects that the club supports across the world.
