Families are being offered the chance to creates their own illuminated work of art and take part in an annual parade later this month.
The lantern parade through the streets of Douglas has become an integral part of the Douglas Christmas lights switch-on, held this year on Thursday, November 19. The Isle of Man Arts Council is running a series of creative workshops to help people design and make their own willow lantern sculptures.
The free sessions take place at the Villa Marina Arcade in Douglas this Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8, from 10am to 3.30pm, and again next weekend, on November 14 and 15 and are open for all the family to take part in.
The sessions will be led by members of the government’s arts team, who will offer guidance and instruction, and all materials will be supplied, including paper, glue and lengths of willow.
’The willow lantern workshops are very popular and offer families the chance to get really creative,’ said arts engagement officer, Grainney Sheard.
’Each year we see a huge range of designs and sizes from the straightforward to the highly elaborate’.
Places at the willow lantern workshops can be reserved through eventbrite.co.uk
