Half-term may have come and gone, but our action-packed schedule continues at The Family Library.

Last week, hundreds of children enjoyed a range of activities from building bridges to maiking their own pots of gooey, sticky slime.

It was all part of our STEM Week initiative, a scheme which aims to help children develop skills from an early age based on teaching methods in line with STEM education.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

We were delighted to team up with BB consulting engineers as we had fun making and testing bridges at special engineering workshops.

We may have had blustery conditions of late, but our ’Technology and Trash’ sessions went down a storm with parents and youngsters alike, who arrived with their own junk to make some wonderful and amazing creations of all shapes and sizes.

We supplied the necessary materials, such as glue, paint and scissors.

Who would have thought that junk modelling was so much fun?

Of course, kids love slime and it also helps children develop their creativity and learn through exploration.

At our workshops they revelled in making their own gooey-pots to take home and taking part in our own slime raffle.

It was learning of a very different kind when we had fun making and joining tetrahedrons to support the maths element of STEM.

To all those who enjoyed our sell-out sessions, thank you.

We had fun too!

Away from the extra half-term activities it is still business as usual for all our other regular services.

The family, mobile, home, schools and bibliotherapy remains in great demand and each week from Tuesday to Saturday our base is a hive of fun activities including crafts, puzzles and games, all promoting reading, writing and creativity.

The Mobile Library has been out and about as usual this week and our regular classes such as Sticky Fingers, Teddy Time, Toddle Tots and Storybox are all continuing.

We are always delighted to see old and new faces, so pop in and you’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome and plenty of things to do.

To keep up-to-date on events and to find out more about the services available, have a look at The Family Library page on Facebook, which is packed with the latest information, or go to familylibrary.im.
