After a lifetime spent collecting music, a family are putting more than 50,000 records and box sets up for sale, writes Mike Wade.

The records belonged to well-known Ramsey man John Peel and, after his death in 2017, his family were left to look after his immense record collection, amassed over years of scouring through record shops, auctions and car boot sales.

His daughter, Julie Mattin, has painstakingly put the huge collection into alphabetical order at the family home in Ramsey and is inviting people to come and have a browse round them this weekend, where each record will be available for £1.

The collection features music from all genres and styles and also includes TT race coverage, Manx Radio promo discs and television and film soundtracks.

’Basically, we don’t want these anymore,’ said Julie.

’I would love it if somebody walked in here and found a record they have always wanted. Whether it is worth 1p or a couple of hundred pounds, they will be able to buy it here for £1.

’I want people to have as much pleasure out of these records as my dad did.’

The sale begins on this coming Saturday, from 10am until 4pm at Manninagh, Bircham Avenue, Ramsey.
