Some of the best 25 walks the island has to offer have been brought together to create an early autumn event called Walk the Isle of Man.

Taking place this year from Monday, September 30, until Friday, October 4, Walk the Isle of Man covers routes that have been chosen to accommodate all levels of walkers - from hardened hikers to those who prefer more of a stroll.

Participants simply select one of the five daily walks on offer, encompassing a mix of flat paths and roads, as well as more challenging coastal and hillside trails.

Accompanied by experienced walk leaders and supporters, each walk varies in length - the shortest being four miles from Glen Mona to Cornaa Halt via Port Cornaa and Ballaglass Glen (classed as an easier walk).

The longest is 16 miles from Douglas to Castletown, via the Raad ny Foillan (classed as strenuous).

The event is the creation of Onchan based Isle of Man Event Services and Go-Mann Adventures, run by expert walking guide Dr Andrew Foxon from Port Erin.

While Walk the Isle of Man is also expected to draw a considerable number of walking enthusiasts from the UK and Ireland, Isle of Man Event services director Sally Helwich said Walk the Isle of Man would be just as appealing to those living in the island.

’We want this to be a celebration of walking,’ she said.

’The Isle of Man is teeming with wonderful views and wildlife, so for anyone who doesn’t necessarily know the island that well and may have only lived here for a relatively short period, Walk the Isle of Man is a healthy way to get immersed in local culture and the great outdoors.’

The official launch of Walk the Isle of Man 2019 takes place at the Ascot Hotel in Douglas, starting at 7pm on Sunday, September 29, the evening before the first walking day.

A farewell reception will be staged at the same venue at 7pm on Friday, October 4.
