A fundraising event in which particpants run around the island in relays is taking place again in May.

Organisers are now looking for people to take part in ’Race the Sun’.

The relay race on May 16 starts at sunrise.

A team of 10 must complete an anti-clockwise lap of the demanding 100-mile Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath before the sun sets.

The course is split into 10 sections and includes hills, sandy beaches, glens, estuaries and exposed cliff tops.

The event aims money for the Children’s Centre.

Joff Whitten, head of The Children’s Centre, said: ’When I started last year I was fascinated by the Race the Sun event and slightly in awe of all those who undertook the challenge. And as such I am determined to put together a team of like-minded hopeless hopefuls to take part in the race with me this year, safe in the knowledge we will come last.

’We as a charity are continually amazed and humbled at the generosity and support we get from the island’s community. The work we do with vulnerable, at risk and challenged children, young people and families is as needed as it has ever been, especially as the world moves further into uncertain times.

’Good luck to those wishing to compete and I will see you at the finish line. Eventually.’

Registration is now open. Participants can register online.

The event has been a sell out for the past three years so we’re urging teams to register now, by going to our website https://www.thechildrenscentre.org.im/events/

In its first 11 years, the event has raised more than £120,000 in total, which has been used to support children and young people in the Isle of Man through many projects run by The Children’s Centre.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning fastest team, the team finishing closest to sunset, and the team with the fastest time set in each leg.

The prize evening will end with a supper at The Marine Hotel in Peel.
