The first Port Erin Festival of the Sea - combining the Beach Festival and Manx Wildlife Trust’s touch tanks - will take place on July 22 and 23.
The festival, a celebration of all things marine-related, has its roots in the Queenie Festival, which was founded by Tim Croft from Island Seafare and attracted thousands to Port St Mary. However, logistical problems meant it did not take place last year.
This new festival will celebrate the island’s marine conservation and heritage.
Steve George, who has led the organising of Port Erin Beach Festival for a number of years ,said: ’The beach and sea festival is a fun day for all, incorporating the well-established Port Erin Beach Festival with great attractions to entertain children and adults alike. There will be food stalls, a sand castle competition, beach sports, free bouncy castles and live music. This is an unmissable weekend down in Port Erin.’
Lara Howe, MWT marine officer said: ’The event is a great way to engage with the public and showcase the marine life that can be seen in Manx waters via our touch tanks. MWT is so grateful to everyone who helps out and makes it possible, we have an amazing group of volunteers.’
Tim Graham, chief executive of MWT, said: ’Our great partners and volunteers really help us make this festival a reality and the national event it deserves to be.’
