Manx aviation and military history in the 20th century will be the subject of a lecture by museum curator Ivor Ramsden on Saturday.

As part of his talk, Mr Ramsden will also offer a behind-the-scenes insight into the popular Manx Aviation and Military History museum at Ronaldsway.

Mr Ramsden’s lecture, to the Isle of Man Antiquarian and Natural History Society (IOMNHAS), will focus on some of the individuals, events and places woven into the island’s aviation and military history. This will be followed by an outline of the museum’s history and work, its exhibitions and its plans for the future.

Run by volunteers, the museum tries to bring history to life by telling the stories of people involved in some of the most significant events in the past 100 years.

The lecture, on Saturday, November 17, is the latest in the Isle of Man Natural History and Antiquarian Society’s winter series of lectures and unlike the majority of the IOMNHAS’s lectures, Mr Ramsden’s presentation will be held at the iMuseum in Kingswood Grove, Douglas, beginning at 2.30pm.

The lecture will be followed by tea and biscuits.

For its next lecture, A Bird’s-Eye View of Manx Birdlife, from Neil Morris, managing director of Manx Birdlife, on Saturday, December 8, the IOMNHAS will be back in the more familiar territory of the Manx Museum lecture theatre.

Non-members can attend both lectures for a small charge.
