The island’s two biggest towns have announced when they’ll be hosting fireworks displays.
Ramsey Commissioners’ annual display will take place in the Mooragh Park on Monday, November 5, at 7.30pm.
Chairman Andy Cowie said: ’It is expected to be even more successful than last year’s tremendous event’.
Douglas Council’s public fireworks will be held on Friday, November 2, starting at 7.25pm.
At the start, the deputy mayor of Douglas, Ian Clague, will lead the judging for the best Guy competition.
At 7.40pm the fireworks display, set to music, will be fired from a barge moored opposite the war memorial on Douglas promenade, the area from where spectators are encouraged to watch the event and where catering outlets will also be located.
Radio station 3FM, will be broadcasting live coverage of the event.
Regeneration and community committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ’This is always an eagerly anticipated event which, thanks to the hard work of council staff, provides an opportunity for families to enjoy the fireworks in a safe and secure environment in the magnificent setting of Douglas bay.’
Entries for the best Guy competition must be submitted between 7.15 and 7.25pm at the staged area in the vicinity of the war memorial.
Parking will be suspended from 3pm until 9.30pm on Harris Promenade east side ,where traffic will be restricted to a single lane (southbound) between Broadway and a point opposite the northernmost end of the marine gardens from 6 to 9.30pm.
Free parking is available in Chester Street car park.
The council is asking people not to bring pets or their own fireworks, including sparklers, onto the site.
If there is bad weather or there are technical problems and the event has to be cancelled on Friday, November 2, the council has contingency plans in place and has an occasional music licence for Sunday November 4.
Two years ago, the council switched dates at the last minute but did not get an amended licence. It was fined £250.
Celton Manx, which runs sports betting brand SBOBET, is sponsoring Douglas’s event.
