An event to bring together electric vehicle owners and enthusiasts will take place this Sunday.

This will be the first ever meeting for the Isle of Man Electric Vehicle Owners group.

Douglas councillor and motoring writer Frank Schuengel is organising the event.

He said: ’Having seen how fast the number of EVs on our roads is increasing, and how there is a real and growing feeling of community among those who have made the move from petrol or diesel to electric, it seemed like a good idea to try and bring owners together for a cars and coffee style event.’

Manx Utilities will support the event by arranging for the Barista van to provide refreshments and will have staff on hand to answer any questions from owners and those curious about EV ownership.

’Having Manx Utilities on board is a bonus as it not only provides us with a perfect venue, but also gives us access to subject matter experts from the very authority that is responsible for much of the progress being made when it comes to the EV charging network on the island,’ said Mr Schuengel.

’This is the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones, and I am hoping that it will become a regular fixture on the island’s motoring calendar.’

Organisers have announced that a revoluntionary hydrogen vehicle from the UK will also be at the event.

The RiverSimple Rasa car is sustainable and its main purpose is to pursue the elimination of the environmental impact of personal transport.

The Steam Packet will bring the vehicle over for free.

Steam Packet managing director Brian Thomson said: ’This event will be a real first for the island and, as a UNESCO Biosphere partner company, sustainability is a core value for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, which is reflected in the choice of hybrid engines for the new vessel "Manxman".

’Minimising the impact of activities on the environment, is something we are keen to support. We are delighted to be able to assist the organisers and hope it is a productive gathering.’

The gathering will take place on February 27 from 10am to 12pm at the Manx Utilities headquarters in the Isle of Man Business Park, Braddan.
