Caterers The Tartan Group has raised £1,300 through the sale of fish fingers and chips, which it is splitting between the RNLI and Hospice.
The money was raised by the group donating 50p from every dish of fish fingers, chips and peas sold at its two restaurants, The Boatyard at Mariners Wharf in Peel and Tanroagan Seafood Restaurant in Douglas.
The restaurants are run by the Mowat family, Joan and her children Laura and Robin. They say they seek to use as much Manx produce as possible including local potatoes, peas and fresh fish.
The family chose to support the Hospice to thank its staff for the care they provided for Graham Mowat, whom the family described as a ’dear husband and father’.
Hospice helped Mr Mowat to spend his final days in ’peaceful surroundings with his family and dogs beside him’.
The family added: ’It is our small way of thanking them for all they did and continue to do for Manx families.’
Another charity to benefit from the Tartan Group is the RNLI.
With the Boatyard overlooking the Peel marina and Tanroagan near Douglas’s North Quay, the family said they have an ’intimate relationship’ with the charity.
The family said: ’Over the course of the seasons, we observe the dangers the brave volunteers of the RNLI endure to bring home safely those who find themselves in peril.
’So it seemed a logical charity to support from those who enjoy dining on local coastal fish.’
The Tartan Group also runs an information coffee club on Tuesdays to Sundays at the Boatyard restaurant where 25p of every cup of Manx filter coffee and tea sold is donated to the Fisherman’s Mission.
