A Tynwald scrutiny committee is to carry out a follow-up investigation into the open skies policy.
Five years ago, the economic policy review committee examined whether the current open skies approach is still in the best interests of the Isle of Man in preserving and encouraging an adequate, frequent and long-term network of scheduled air services.
Its 2013 report concluded that the policy, which allows free access to routes to and from Ronaldsway, remains the best option.
But it said this should be reviewed regularly and a contingency plan prepared for a licensing regime, light touch or otherwise, should this be needed in the future.
Among its other recommendations was the suggestion that government set up a franchise-based airline which would allow it to buy landing slots at UK airports.
Now,Tynwald’s environment and infrastructure policy review committee has decided to inquire into what progress has been made with implementing these recommendations.
The committee is inviting written evidence from anyone who would like to comment. Submissions should be sent by 5pm on Friday, October 20 to Clerk of Tynwald Roger Phillips at [email protected]
The committee is chaired by Rob Callister MHK who sits alongside Clare Bettison and Chris Robertshaw.
