Nearly 200 people of all ages took part in a friendly football event in memory of an Onchan student.
The Jamie Haslett Football Memorial Tournament saw 25 teams compete against each other at Laxey FC to raise funds for Victim Support Isle of Man. It’s raised £1,200 so far.
Jamie lost his life in 2010 while studying at Sheffield Hallam University. He died after being hit by a police patrol car in Sheffield at the age of 19. He had played for Laxey FC.
His brother Michael described Jamie as a ’loyal person’. ’Jamie was full of fun and every year we love seeing people turn out and playing in his honour,’ he said.
Michael said the turnout meant a lot to the Haslett family and thanked Victim Support, Laxey A.F.C and St John Ambulance. The 10th tournament is next year.
