A former courthouse in the west of the island is still up for sale, three years after it was first placed on the market.
The former Kirk Michael Courthouse is listed for sale with Chrystals estate with a reduced asking price of £145,000.
A sticking point previously has been the lack of parking. But an agreement has now been reached for the would-be buyer to be able to lease two parking spaces from Heron and Brearley.
Built in 1835, replacing an earlier structure, the old building is said to be the last survivor of several country courthouses across the island.
Chrystals said it holds ’great historical value’.
The last cases at the old courthouse were heard by Deemster Johnson in about 1950 and the building has since served as a classroom, restaurant and social centre.
’The smaller building to the rear was the cell, known as the "Black Hole", usually only occupied by an occasional drunk after fair day,’ notes Chrystals.
Predominantly an open floor plan building with large windows allowing in sunlight, the former courthouse is referred to as ’ideal for persons looking for a restoration project and suitable for other uses subject to planning’.
The pictures shown on the estate agent’s website indicate that the building will need extensive interior work for any future use including plastering and work to the ceiling.
It was first placed on the market in 2016, with an asking price at that time of £170,000.
Bishop Hildesley in Kirk Michael commissioned the first and only dedicated ecclesiastical courthouse in the island in 1766 - initially ecclesiastical then used for civil justice as well.
That building was replaced on the same site by the current castellated building in 1835, designed by Thomas Brine.
The two car parking spaces are available at an additional cost.
