Former police inspector Derek Flint is one of the organisers behind a new super car five-day event starting in June.
The event, called ’Supertour 2018’, will be held over five days from Sunday, June 10, to Thursday, June 14, just after the TT festival ends on Friday, June 8.
Derek Flint and Peter Adamson, co-founders of Supertour Ltd, say they want to show off the island’s roads, people, hospitality, scenery, quirkiness and status as the home of motorsport.
Mr Flint said: ’We wanted to build on our status as an undisputed world-class destination for motorsport.
’The island attracts thousands of TT and Festival of Motorcycling visitors each year.
’There is a great opportunity between these gatherings, to hold other attractive and exciting events so we can show the island off.
’Supertour catalyses that aspiration.’
The event has been designed to attract owners of super cars both from the island and further afield and will cover many stretches of the island’s roads.
His business partner, Peter Adamson, said: ’We’re incredibly excited to launch the inaugural Supertour event on the island.
’It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our home and all that it has to offer, both as a tourist destination and a place to do business.’
Beginning on the Sunday, the event begins with a convoy of cars heading around the TT course to Ramsey, where a drinks reception will be held with entertainment.
The Monday begins with ’Dawn Raid’ where drivers will be able to fully open up on the Mountain Road before breakfast followed by a private tour of the motor museum in Jurby.
Closed road
On the Tuesday, organisers are applying for permission to stage a hill climb event, expected to be on a closed section of the Sloc before a showcase where the cars will be parked in Castletown Square.
It is understood that Mr Flint and Mr Adamson have been in contact with the police and Department of Infrastructure for some time over any potential road closure.
On the Wednesday, cars will go head to head on Jurby runway with another blast along the mountain in the afternoon before champagne reception.
The week concludes the next day, where participants will be given the chance to have a leisurely drive around the island before those based off the island will take the afternoon boat to Liverpool.
The event will cost those off the island £3,750 plus VAT and an extra £1,200 for a guest, also without VAT.
Manx residents are asked to contact organisers to discuss options available.
