Frank the French bulldog won the hearts of many in this year’s ManxSPCA Spookiest Pet with his spellbinding outfit.

The two-year-old Frenchie was up against nearly 70 ghost dogs, vampire cats and other ghoulish creatures in the animal welfare charity’s competition.

Participants had to submit a photograph of their spooky pet on Facebook, donate £1 to the ManxSPCA and like and share the post.

Whoever got the most likes on their photo would win a hamper of goodies for the individual animal and vouchers for restaurant Just Pizza and Pasta.

In the end Frank came out as top dog with a photo of him dressed as a witch, which received almost 100 votes.

His owner, Hannah Griffiths, said she was inspired to keep in with the Manx theme of Jinny the Witch.

She said Frank was ’a bit shy and overwhelmed’ by the attention he has received, but has tucked into his treats joyfully after collecting his prizes with her partner Dave Quirk.

’Getting the votes was really nice,’ Hannah said.

’This is the first year we’ve entered and we do like to support local animal charities. We’ll try to maintain the title next year.’

She added that they might dress Frank as Frankenstein’s monster next year.

Liam Rice, PR and fundraiser coordinator at the ManxSPCA, said: ’This is our second year running this fun little challenge. We love seeing everyone’s pets getting into the Halloween spirit.

’The winner received a little hamper full of dog goodies, a new bed and bowl and also a voucher for the ManxSPCA tearooms. Frank is a well-deserved winner and we think he looks great!’
