The Family Library is an important social and literary resource for schools, adults and the wider island community, based at Westmoreland Road in Douglas.

What a week we are having at the Family.Library!

We always enjoy Hallowe’en - or Hop Tu Naa as we like to celebrate in the island - and throughout this half-term week there’s plenty going on to mark the festivities.

Earlier this week, our two-part clay owl workshop went down a storm with youngsters of all ages (and their parents!) creating weird and wonderful owls.

Jinny the Witch also popped in amidst her busy schedule for some spooky tales before we made our very own spooky books which were in keeping with the tradition!

From spooky stories to haunted houses, so many of you brought in a box and we did the rest on Wednesday, making haunted houses using shoe boxes . Again some wonderful creations were well worth seeing!

Hop tu Naa wouldn’t be quite the same without slime and we are turning our attention to spooky slime this afternoon (Thursday) with four workshops.

Tomorrow morning we have our regular Story Box and Toddle Tots with a spooky twist with stories, nursery rhymes and action songs at 10.30am and then you can drop in for craft and face painting throughout the day, with a ghosty and ghouly theme.

In partnership with the Friends of the Family Library, we are also hosting our Hop Tu Naa disco tomorrow night (Friday) from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. We can’t wait to see your fancy dress!

Our family fun events conclude on Saturday morning at our Stickyfingers workshops when we’ll be making flying bat hanging mobiles! The sessions start at 10.30am and 1.30pm

There are still a handful of places remaining for some events so please phone the library to book a space and avoid disappointment.

It’s simply a great time of the year for getting together with your friends and family, having fun and celebrating as people island-wide gather for singing, dancing, storytelling, games, cooking and turnip carving.
