Drivers heading south along Glencrutchery Road in Douglas will have noticed quite a difference this week, besides the army of cones, as they are diverted through the Grandstand pit lane.

The diversion has been put in place to allow the Department of Infrastructure’s highways division to make improvements to the road surface.

A spokesman for the DoI said: ’The work taking place at the TT start line is a simple plane and inlay to improve the surface, which is in a poor condition.

’The department is also working with contractors to allow Sure to install a new duct across the road.’

The works are centred around the junction of Greenfield Road and while south bound traffic will be filtered through the pit lane, traffic heading north will use the existing northbound lane or at times the existing south bound lane during re-surfacing.

The highway’s website advises that ’access in and out of Greenfield Road may be restricted at times during some of the works’.

Drivers are also advised by the DoI that during this time, there is to be no overtaking, speeding, stopping or encroachment upon coned off areas while the work is being carried out, asking motorists to think of the workers on site and their safety.

The repairs to the start line of the TT course come as residents display their anger on social media groups at the state of the roads in villages across the island with potholes a continuing and frequent complaint.

The work on Glencrutchery Road is expected to be completed this Saturday (April 7).
