A protest was held in Douglas as part of a global stand against 5G wireless technology.

More than 30 members of the public stood outside the former Shoprite in Market Street holding signs reading ’stop 5G’ and ’do not consent’ to mark 5G Global Protest Day.

Organised by 5G Aware IOM, the group gave a silent march through Strand Street and Duke Street. It has concerns that 5G technology impacts the health of people and the environment. It calls for safe and proven technology ’over corporate profit’.

Petra Stetina, who submitted a petition for redress of grievance on the subject at last year’s Tynwald Day, sent a letter to MHKs about the group’s concerns.

She wrote: ’Please call for a moratorium on the next generation wireless infrastructure on the Isle of Man based on the precautionary principle, until a full risk assessment - that includes biological effects - has been made.’

The group is supporting an ’Astronomers Appeal’ against the technology from going into space.
