Property developer Haven Homes to Southern Swimming Club has made a donation to the Southern Swimming Club.
With the closure of the pool during lockdown, plans to invest in equipment for its members and to introduce new swimmers to the club came to a standstill, and plans to develop the club’s programmes for older swimmers and volunteers had to stop.
With the only source of income being through club fees, the club was concerned about their future and started an internet donation campaign.
Haven Homes contacted the club with an offer to donate £1000.
Jen Carran from Haven Homes said: ’Southern are a well known club in the area, and when we realised how much the lockdown had affected them, we naturally wanted to help. Hopefully this donation will help them to invest in new equipment and recruit new members for the club.’
Ian Harrop, the club’s chairman, said: ’The club is run entirely by volunteers who work all year round to encourage their swimmers to be the best they can be. Everyone is welcome, there’s a place for everyone and thanks to Haven Homes we are on the road to recovery and can now look forward to increasing our numbers.’
