Chief Minister Howard Quayle is self-isolating after displaying symptoms of Covid-19.

Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford confirmed the news which comes after Mr Quayle missed this afternoon’s Tynwald sitting.

Mr Quayle is working remotely from home and is continuing to run the government.

He chaired the national strategy group and the Council of Ministers before taking a test this afternoon, and is now awaiting results.

The Health Minister said: ’I want to reassure everyone that the Chief Minister’s symptoms are mild.’

He said the Chief Minister's symptoms included a fever and continuous cough and he had immediately self-isolated as a precaution, and dialed 111.

Mr Ashford also revealed that there has been no increase in the number of people testing positive in the island, with 150 confirmed cases of the virus so far.

Of that 150, 73 people are ’presumed recovered’ with 76 active cases. Six people are being treated in hospital.

There has been one death in the island from Covid-19.

A total of 1,730 tests have been conducted in the island with 1,525 concluded, there is 205 people awaiting results, including Mr Quayle. A further 57 people are awaiting tests.

Mr Ashford confirmed there are 23 patients in Noble's including two in intensive care. Six have tested positive and 17 are awaiting results.

Wards one and two at Noble's can house 40 patients but the DHSC is doing work around the Newlands building to provide a total of 50 beds.
