Chief Minister Howard Quayle has tested positive for coronavirus.The news came as the island recorded its biggest daily increase in Covid cases so far - up 32 from yesterday.Mr Quayle has been self-isolating at home since he developed symptoms.
In a letter read out by the Health Minister at a press briefing this afternoon, Mr Quayle said he was ’humbled’ by the volume of messages of support he had received.
He said he had received a text message today saying he had tested positive.
Mr Quayle said he continues to chair the National Strategy Group and today’s Council of Ministers.
’I have very mild symptoms and continue to work from home,’ he said.
Mr Quayle said he was fortunate to have the support of friends and family but recognised that there will be some who will be on their own.
’The way to beat this invisible enemy is to stay at home,’ he said.
Health Minister David Ashford revealed that the number of confirmed cases has risen to 190, up 32 from the figure of 158 yesterday. The total number of those presumed recovered has risen to 92 leaving 97 active cases.
There are 12 confirmed cases being treated in Noble’s.
In total, 1,879 tests have been carried out with results back from 1,751 and 128 test results awaited.
Mr Ashford revealed there had been two confirmed cases at the Abbotswood nursing home.
